Description

A highly decorative and sophisticated English 18th century tripod or occasional table.
Early George III period, ca 1770.
Japanned in red and gold in the 19th century.
The scarlet japanning and gilding survives in a remarkable state.
Exotically decorated overall with chinoiserie vignettes of pagodas, rock work, figures, birds, butterflies, trees etc, all finely highlighted in gold.

This is a chic antique Georgian occasional table on a well drawn tripod.

Nb. These days ‘japan work’ and ‘lacquer’ are often loosely interchangeable terms.
