Description

An English mid 18th century mahogany wingback armchair. George III period, circa 1760.

Upholstered in eighteenth century Aubusson tapestry retaining its vibrant colours, and close-nailed.
Of generous proportions, this antique wing chair is raised on moulded legs and brass castors.

Nb. When they are so well proportioned, these antique Georgian wing armchairs provide comfort, elegance and sophistication to a sitting room or gentleman’s study. Traditionally the high backs provided added protection from drafts and helped to contain heat from an open fireplace.
They were first introduced in England in the 17th century.
Sometimes referred to as wing-back, club chairs or library armchairs.
