Carved giltwood Regency mirror with eagle and serpents.

H: 88 cm
W: 46 cm
D: 18 cm

Ca 1820.

BHA 1045

A carved antique giltwood mirror of classic Regency design. Surmounted by a displaying eagle set on rock work.
The frame surrounded with a geometric design border with intertwining serpents and oak leaves to the base.

Nb. Gilt wood mirrors with carved serpents are quite rare – this is a desirable feature.
This highly decorative antique English mirror has later re-inforcing to the back, probably added in the 19th century.
Re-gilded over time. Possibly originally with a convex mirror plate.

For a mirror with conjoined serpents see Geoffrey Wills ‘English Looking-glasses: A study of the Glass,
Frames and Makers (1670-1820)’ Country Life Ltd, London, 1965, p. 128, plate 162.
