Description

A fine English Chippendale period carved ‘pie crust’ tripod table in well figured and patinated mahogany of excellent colour.

Nb. These rare antique tables are always superior when raised on a ‘birdcage support’, with one piece tops, and with the pie crust edge carved out of the solid, without any joints.
A useful tip for collectors is to ensure the top is approximately equal to the spread of the base. This will result in all important (correct for period) proportions. See Arthur Negus ”English Furniture’’, p.123, fig. 58, for a very similar pie crust table which he dates to 1770.
