Description

A small rare George II period mahogany bureau cabinet/ bookcase. Of good colour and patina.

The top section with a bold dentil cornice, consisting of a single moulded door with later mirror plate, re-entrant corners and with a pull-out candle slide. The latter helps date this cabinet to the mid 18th century.
The interior with three adjustable shelves.

The writing section (or ‘desk’) fitted with an arrangement of small drawers centred by a chamfered door. The fall with an old, vellum green gilt-tooled writing surface. Useful as a compact writing desk.
The base is fitted with graduated cockbeaded, oak-lined drawers, and is raised on bracket feet. All in excellent condition.

Antique Georgian bureau cabinets/ bookcases of these rare narrow proportions are much sought after for today’s smaller rooms.
This small, elegant, quintessentially English bureau cabinet is of a pure form.
