Pair of North Italian early 19th century carved giltwood mirrors of larger than average size
The arched shaped plates set within a floral border, the frames carved with foliate and floral scrolls surmounted by a scallop shell cresting.

Nb. Usually conceived as pairs, these mirrors often had candle sconces issuing from their bases, the light being reflected in the mirror plates. In this form they are referred to as girandoles. Often pairs became separated but they are of greater rarity and value if found in pairs, or even in sets of four.
