Description
Mid Georgian English antique solid walnut cabriole leg stool carved on the knees with shells and bellflowers.
Excellent colour and patina. Some ‘ears’ old restorations. The quality carving to the knees is a desirable feature.
Now beautifully upholstered in fine Casamance fabric.
Ralph Edwards illustrates a similar stool ca. 1720 in his ‘Shorter Dictionary of English Furniture on p. 505, no 33, showing carved shells on the knees but with ball and claw feet. (Holyrood Palace, Midlothian).
