An early-18th century Queen Anne period carved walnut games, or card, table.
Circa 1710.

Veneered in well-figured walnut with herringbone feather bandings.
The bold fold-over outset shaped top opening to reveal candle stands and guinea wells.
Raised on slender cabriole legs with lappet carving and pad feet.

This fine, rare antique has a superb, rich golden colour and beautiful original waxed surfaces.

NB. The hinged ”concertina” action allows for positioning a leg at all four corners, demonstrating its early 18th century sophistication and, of course, stability.

‘The Shorter Dictionary of English Furniture’, Ralph Edwards CBE FSA, Hamlyn, London (4th impression 1972) ill. 7, p. 519: note the lappet carving, & ill. 10, p. 52; vis. the circular corners dished for candle sticks, and wells for counters.
