Description
A Queen Anne-period, early 18th-century walnut chest on stand, beautifully constructed and well figured throughout. Elegant canted corners. The upper section features a moulded cornice over three short drawers, over three long graduated drawers. The lower section with moulded cornice, is fitted with three further drawers, all with elegantly-shaped brass handles and escutcheons.
The fine quarter-veneered walnut surfaces are bordered with delicate featherbanding displaying a mellow, lightly-faded colour, and pleasant patination. The piece is raised on cabriole legs with a shaped apron enhancing its refined silhouette.
A good example of early-18th century craftsmanship, exhibiting pleasing proportions, offering very useful storage — all drawers run very smoothly. Oak linings. Divides neatly into two sections for ease of handling.
A distinguished walnut chest on stand, or high chest, or tallboy, circa 1710, historically restored to the highest standard, in superb condition throughout. Would enhance any interior – traditional or contemporary – very versatile for a bedroom, sitting room, drawing room, or hallway.
