Description

An early 18th century antique cherry wood cabriole leg dresser base. Ca. 1730. Beautiful old colour and patination. Possibly original brasses, lacking some locks.

NB. Cherry wood was much used in antique American furniture of this period and is much sought after by serious collectors.

Cherrywood has a very tight grain, is hard and very strong.
Used in chair making and panels during the 17th and 18th centuries, but few examples survive.
Cherry was used to a great extent in the 17th and 18th centuries by American Colonial cabinet makers particularly for more rustic pieces, such as dresser bases and lowboys etc.
