Early 18th century antique German Rococo burr walnut commode

Early 18th century antique German walnut, burr walnut and fruitwood serpentine three drawer commode or chest.

Lovely colour and in superb condition overall.

The top with a bold moulded edge and centered with a burrwood cartouche containing winged cherubs holding cornucopiae of summer flowers within an engraved acanthus border.

The whole with scrolling strapwork, engraved inlays and raised on typical bun feet. The conforming sides walnut veneered and crossbanded.

Heinrich Kreisel in his ‘Die Kunst des deutchen Mobels -Spatbarock und Rokoko’ illustrates similar strapwork and inlays to the top of a more elaborate commode, Dresden no. 53. p. 364 Schloss Moritzburg bei Dresden 1720-1730.
