Description
A rare English 17th century pierced-brass plague pan.
It retains its original antique wrought-iron handle.
Further research reveals the inscription to have been written on this antique pan in Middle (Old) French.
It reads “AIME DIEU DE TOUT TONS”.
This phrase comes from the Bible (Deuteronomy 6:5) and New Testament (Matthew, Luke).
It translates into English as: “You shall love God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your might”.
L: 33” (84cm)
D: 5” (13cm)
Dia: 10” (25cm).
We have been told that another – less refined – one was last seen circa 1970 in a private museum in Western Australia.
