Description

An English 17th-century oak and walnut chest of drawers. Charles II-period (1630-1685).

The drawer fronts with walnut inserts of great colour. The substantial moulded top has cleated ends.
Containing four full-length pull-out drawers, the top drawer fitted with divisions, and centred by an unusual, applied carved panel.

All drawers with side runners typical of 17th-century construction.
Raised on short ‘stile’ feet.
The ends are paneled, and the base retains the original bold moulding.

Brass key escutcheons apparently original, the ring handles are 18th-century replacements – which are very much in keeping.
Excellent condition overall, with an old waxed, well-patinated surface of very good rich colour.

A very versatile antique chest – offering ample storage – for use in any room.
