Description
A rare, small, English early-18th century walnut bureau bookcase/ cabinet with a moulded swan-neck pediment. Circa 1727-1730. On the cusp of George I into George II.
The bevelled-mirror plate has a candle slide below.
The lower writing section behind the fall reveals a fitted interior of numerous small and unusual concave- and convex-fronted working drawers with a well.
All veneered in figured walnut of excellent old colour and surface patination. Raised on its original bracket feet. Old brass mounts are correct for period but later. Retaining original locks and apparently original mirror plate. Pine carcass.
As the oak-lined drawers have lip mouldings this dates the piece to ca 1730.
