Description
A decorative antique 17th century English oak coffer chest.
With a quadruple paneled and hinged rising top.
The front panels are all profusely carved with typical 17th century strapwork, rosettes and ‘chip’ carving.
Paneled ends.
Excellent colour with old waxed patina.
N.B. Many of our clients conceal their audio equipment in these. This antique chest makes a lovely coffee table / TV stand, and is also useful storage at the foot of a bed.
Note the tulips carved into the facing of the oak coffer, indicative of “Tulip Mania” which swept through the low countries in the 17th century. In 1633 a farmhouse in Holland changed hands – the price was 3 rare tulip bulbs.
