An English Chippendale period carved pie crust tripod table in mahogany of deep rich colour and good patina.
George II, circa 1755.
This fine 18th-century table has a one piece, well-carved top raised on a ‘bird cage’ action, allowing the top to swivel and tilt.
The tapering column support has leaf carving, stop-fluting and terminates in an elegant tripod with shaped pad feet crisply carved with acanthus on the knees.
Nb. These sophisticated antique Georgian tables are superior when raised on a ‘bird cage’ support, with one-piece tops, and come with the pie crust carved out of the solid – as such without joints.
Useful as a chic occasional table, or lamp table.
