Description

An English fret-carved mahogany wall, or pier, mirror. Late-George II period, circa 1760.

The unusual, undulating, serpentine inner border is gesso carved and parcel gilt.
The moulded frame is flanked with well-carved oak leaves, acorns and trailing foliage, all in giltwood.

This antique (Georgian) fret-carved pier or wall mirror is larger than usual.
The broad mahogany outer frame is carved with boldly defined scrolls, is well patinated, retaining old waxed surfaces of very good colour.

Mirror plate is an old replacement. Backboards are all original. In excellent condition overall.
