Description

A rare English George III green tortoiseshell tea caddy of domed rectangular form, surmounted by a silver finial.
Regency period, ca 1800.
Enclosing two lidded compartments with turned bone handles.
All carefully ‘bookmarked’ veneers of a vibrant green.
This antique caddy is in excellent condition. It has a period red velvet lining to the lid, and retains most of the original tin foil which was designed to keep the tea fresh.

w: 17.5 cm
h: 15 cm
d: 9 cm.

Nb. Tea was a very costly item in the 18th century, and needed to be presented in a special and luxurious way.
What better than to be locked away in a rare green tortoiseshell caddy, complete with working lock and key?
