Antique English Georgian mahogany two pedestal twin pillar dining table, circa 1825.
The good quality, well figured and faded mahogany tops supported on twin pedestals with
moulded, leaf carved sabre legs terminating in brass claw cappings and castors with well carved,
classic spiral rope twist columns typical of 1820-1830.
N.b. Historically every house has needed a dining table. This has given rise to a huge demand with a limited supply of genuine antique pedestal/ pillar dining tables, as such resulting in a large number of ‘made-up’ and altered tables of this ilk. It is imperative that any prospective purchaser satisfies him/herself as to its authenticity.
The classic Georgian twin pedestal dining table, which is amongst the most sought after, has commonly been subjected to substantial alterations. Beware of euphemisms such as: ‘style’; ‘basically’; ‘incorporating old timber’; ‘restored’; ‘altered’; ‘with later elements’, etc.
