Large oak armourer’s/ sword chest/ coffer ca 1600. Excellent old patina and superb colour and in very good overall state for an item some 400+ years old.
A rare and unusually large English antique iron bound oak boarded armourer’s chest or coffer of simple form typical of the period. Note the early feature of protruding tenons secured with wooden pegs. Most of the iron work is original. Note the early period chip carved edges. The nails used are iron and hand forged.
This oak armourer’s or sword chest would look most impressive in any period or modern environment. It could also function as a long seat.
