Description

A compact sized mid-18th century walnut lowboy / dressing table / vanity.
George II period, circa 1750.

Raised on cabriole legs, this small English walnut table is only 2′ 5” wide.
Retaining its original open-fret brasses, which are typical of the mid 18th century.
Excellent well figured walnut of mellow colour and original waxed surface.

It has a shaped apron consisting of 3 cockbeaded drawers.
Inlaid with boxwood lines.
Raised on cabriole legs.

This versatile Georgian antique can be used as a side table, lamp table, small occasional table, writing table, dressing table or vanity.

Ralph Edwards CBE FSA illustrates a similar walnut lowboy in The Dictionary of English Furniture, Hamlyn, London (Fourth Impression 1972) p. 542, fig. 2; ‘‘Walnut Table; cabriole legs; shaped under framing, fitted with three drawers circa 1715 (Macquoid Collection).’’ The brasses appear to match ours.
