Description

Architectural oak mahogany longcase clock of good colour in its original state.

The top has a broken arch pediment and simple concave molded cornice.

The hood flanked by two tapering free standing fluted columns.

The 13″ 8 day brass dial scroll engraved movement with silvered chapter ring and date aperture, striking the hour on a bell. With subsidiary seconds dial. Cut steel hands.

The oak case of good colour and patina, with fluted full length canted angles, the shaped door cross banded in mahogany.

The dial signed John Smith, Chester. G.H. Baillie in his ‘Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World’, p. 296, records John Smith working 1784 with a clock ill. Britten.

Lead weights, pendulum and key escutcheon appear original. Supplied with key and winder.
