Description

A fine and rare pair of English Regency-period mahogany sofa tables of elegant design.

Early-19th century, ca 1811 – 1820.

Note the beautifully-figured, matched mahogany & satinwood tops supported on ‘curule’ legs, united by a stretcher. The tops with broad satinwood margins contained within ebony and boxwood lines with rosewood crossbandings. Cedar-lined working drawers with dummy fronts to the reverse. All of lovely quality. In superb condition throughout.

Dimensions approx:
Height: 28”
Width: leaves down 34”, extended 59”
Depth: 30”

Deep rich colour, good patina – and ready to be installed in a drawing room, or equally at home in a library.

It was considered very fashionable to display a pair of sofa tables during the English Regency. Of this form and quality these are very rare, highly desirable and seldom appear on the market especially in pairs. Both have a useful working long drawer and are often used as writing tables.
