This is a good quality Georgian English mahogany partner’s desk of classic proportions.
Excellent deep, rich colour and patination.

Later beautifully fitted gilt-tooled green leather top and period brasses. All correct for period.

Working drawers to both sides. Locks and key apparently original. Best quality English oak linings and good dovetails.

Ready to use. Minor historic repairs entirely commensurate with age. A fine quality antique in superb condition throughout.

A similar George III mahogany partner’s desk sold at Christies London, 2011, but with an attribution to James Gardner of Chester, ca 1800, for £49,250.
Literature:
A. Hepplewhite and Co. The Cabinet Maker and Upholsterer’s Guide 1788,  plate 75  (First published London, Oct. Ist 1787, I & J. Taylor, No 56 High Holborn. A fabulous book incidentally).
See plate 50 ”generally made of mahogany, covered on the top with leather or green cloth”.
