An English Regency-period solid mahogany extending dining table of superb colour and figuring.
Early-19th century, circa 1820, retaining all its original leaves of fine, well-figured, lightly faded mahogany.
Raised on slender turned legs which swing on a gate-leg action, with brass cups and castors.
This is a versatile antique model offering a variety of alternative combinations depending on the space available. It can be used as a drop-leaf table, or as a smaller dining table.
Its configuration has the huge advantage for diners to sit comfortably without any obstruction caused by skirts or a multitude of awkwardly-positioned supports.
The generous width allows for serving dishes and centre-pieces to be placed conveniently down the middle of the table.
Nb. This table has exceptionally well-figured and patinated tops and, most importantly – unlike so many others – still has all its original leaves.
A similar but later table with alterations was sold @ Christies in 2000 @ £9200.
