Description

A lovely Regency period mahogany wine cooler or cellaret of sarcophagus form. Ca. 1815.

In original state and of excellent colour and patina.

Mounted with bold, gilt bronze carrying handles in the form of intertwining vine leaves and bunches of grapes.

The original castor wheels in solid hardwood, probably ebony. Supported on well carved paw feet. Zinc lined and with its original brass draining tap, hinges and rising lid support.

The flat top allows this versatile antique wine cooler the great advantage of being able to be used as a side/ lamp/ drinks table, as well as to simply be filled with ice to chill your champagne, or whatever you might desire.

For a very similar Regency mahogany sarcophagus wine cooler (but with a stand and later added finial) see Christie’s 26th April 2007 lot 216 sold @ £ 10,800.
