66 Years In The Antiques Trade

Being in this fascinating antiques business for the past 66 plus years one realises that it is a passion above all else.

When infected with this passion it is nigh impossible to shake it off, so we are grateful that we are not engrossed in the wholesale price of baked beans, or monitoring stock markets hour after hour.

One is perpetually on a learning curve, and I remember my old mentor Monty Sainsbury reminding me of this. His assimilation of knowledge started its meteoric rise well before WWII, and ended almost upon the day he passed away. During our long and happy relationship he was always more than willing to allow me a deep insight into his hard-earned wisdom.

It is tempting to remember the ‘old days’ when opportunities to find goods were on a much larger scale than today. However we may dislike the Internet and so forth, we are in the business for the long haul and remain very confident of a bright future for the established trade, as others come and go.

It is tempting to go ‘coast to coast’ with a huge inventory but we at Box House Antiques will remain with our feet on the ground – applying our experience in a disciplined way – to persist in offering the best to our many (and continuously-growing number) of much-valued collectors and friends.

Best regards,
John

PS I plan to do another 66 years in the business by the way.
